Ms Rose – Week Commencing 30.10.17

Lesson One (Ms Rose) – Neuroplasticity and functional recovery – Link to spec – Bio-psychology 4.2.1

We began by discussing the documentaries that we had seen.  You then labelled a brain with the Cerebellum, brain stem, parietal lobe, occipital lobe, corpus callosum, temporal lobe and frontal lobe.  We discussed what would happen if damage happened in any of these regions.  Neuroplasticity after Stroke

Here is the power point that we used. neuroplasticity and recovery from trauma

Here are the clips from the power point.

We ran short on time.  Please bring your worksheets along to next lesson so that we can explore the wonders of functional recovery.

Ms A’s WB 30th Oct 2017

Lesson 1

I handed back the work I marked over 1/2 term. Well done everyone for putting in such good effort.  I will be randomly selecting 2 folders to check next week – so get yours in order as it could be YOURS 🙂

There were some issues around a question that asked you to explain the difference between X and Y.

Most of you stated what X was followed by what Y was. However, the question required you to explain how X and Y were different. This means using the same information but in a different way. You have to draw out the things about inferential and descriptive statistics which are different. Maybe if you had made a similarities and differences grid first this would have helped.

We started to discuss ‘virtual relationships’ and I took in your 1/2 term prep 🙂

Lesson 2

We continued to discuss the nature of virtual relationships and just how wide spread these are. Please ensure you have read the relevant section in the PHG. Also  check your answers to the sexual selection and virtual relationships sheets which you did for 1/2 term prep against the answer sheets .  Lesson 1 VR

Lesson 3

We worked through a longer style Research Methods question together as a class  –  JUNE 2013

Technique:

  1. Read the stem and break it down into what the potential questions might be – what could you be asked? This will help you fully process the material and will stop you panicking. Become a problem solving detective.

2.  Read through all the questions  – circle the command words like,  explain what, explain howHow is a process word – it means there are stages to be explained.

If the question is in parts, label them part 1 and part 2. This will stop you from answering only 1/2 the question and getting only 1/2 the marks.

If the question end with the words ‘in this study’ underline it twice it means it is an application question which needs to be linked back to the stem.

“If you can quote anything directly from the stem always quote exactly from the stem” – it is giving you massive clues so make the most of it!

MINI PREP:  Complete the RM questions ready to hand in next lesson

Lesson 4

We finished the week where we started, which was making sense of virtual relationships  – we have completed power point 1 >> Lesson 1 VR

Use your PHG revision guide book to see how this topic can be broken down really simply into some key ideas and some basic evaluation – and breath!!

PREP: Overall the sexual selection timed essays were done poorly . Thus I am setting the same question again for prep. This is due in first lesson next week.

Discuss the relationship between sexual selection and human reproductive behaviour (16)

Read ahead – we will be going on to parasocial relationships next

Sexual Selection take 2.    By now you should have read the section in the PHG digital text book on Sexual Selection – you should have noted down any key ideas – new terminology and important pieces of research.

The lesson is designed to help you understand this information. REMEMBER the first time you come across new concepts SHOULD NOT BE IN THE LESSON. Pre-reading is essential!

In both lessons today it was absolutely apparent who HAD done their pre-reading. Most of you had not….it was obvious!! 😦  😦  😦

This is the power point we used in today’s lesson >>> 2. Evol & sexual selection

Here is the original Buss study for you to look at >>>> buss-1989-sex-differences-in-human-mate-preferences

Ms Alexander WB 2nd October 2017

Lesson 1

You were allowed a little bit of time to finish of the PHG mini determinism packs before we went through the answers as a class. Remember  – almost every behaviour can be explained through biological, environmental or psychic determinism.  Only humanists suggest we have freewill – oh yes and the Law of the Land. The law assumes we have freewill!

You did a key terms mix and match task. Then we looked briefly at the ‘PEEL’ break down of 2 model answers. See the ”Apply it” question on the bottom of page 98 PHG digi text book.  The more we examine the model answers, the better ‘feel’ we get for what the examiners are looking for. Have you looked at the answers to the “Apply it” questions on page 99 yet?

I also printed out 2 articles and some questions from the “Extension” section of the spread. Once again I  encourage you to look at these materials yourself. Not one person said to me – I have done this already Madam!!! 😦

NEXT lesson we will have a timed examination question on determinism and free will.

Lesson 2  –

Timed exam practice. We looked at the question and examiners report before you attempted the question. You then had 20 minutes to answer the 16 mark determinism/freewill question. After I took in the papers you were given the mark scheme to look at.

Prep: I handed out a PHG research methods mini pack. Please hand this in to me NEXT Tuesday along with the completed correlation questions from the first page. This is the only page you need to do. Do not write on the sheet there is not enough space. Write on a separate sheet of paper.

Remember Film Club this evening in Psychology 1 at 4.30pm

Lesson 3  –  ‘Relationships’

We started to investigate ‘natural’ and ‘sexual’ selection.

Read pages 118-119 PHG digi text book – remember to ‘click those links’.

Lesson 4

We continued on our theme of sexual selection >>> check out the power point   1.1 Evol & sexual selection

You have a worksheet to complete for next lesson >>>>> Sexual selection work sheet 1
